Saved by Faith

It is not a reward for the things you have done. It is a gift, waiting to be received. All you have to do is believe.

The Promise of Christ & Paul

The core message of the Gospel is surprisingly simple. You don't have to earn your way into heaven. Jesus Christ offered salvation as a free gift, and St. Paul spent his life echoing this single, powerful truth: faith is the only requirement.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
— Jesus (John 3:16)
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."
— St. Paul (Ephesians 2:8-9)

The Thief on the Cross

If you ever wonder if you need to "clean up your life" before you can be saved, look to the crucifixion. The man dying next to Jesus had no time to do good deeds, go to church, or get baptized. He was at the very end of his life.

But in his final moments, he simply believed.

"And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise."
— (Luke 23:42-43)

He wasn't saved by his actions. He was saved entirely by his faith.

The Faith of Abraham

Long before the law was given, salvation worked exactly the same way. Abraham is known as the father of faith because he simply took God at His word. He believed in the promises of God and the Holy Spirit, and that belief alone was enough.

"For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness."
— St. Paul (Romans 4:3)

The Gift is Yours

You don't need a perfect past. You don't need to perform perfectly in the future. Just like Abraham, and just like the man on the cross, you only need to open your heart and believe.

I Choose to Believe
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” — Romans 10:9
